Some of the controls have been questionably changed, which leads to frustration in some of the puzzles that require precise controls but don't let that sway you - fans of the original and those who may have been too young to experience the game the first go-round should jump right in. More of a complete re-imagining, Abe's Odyssey has been completely rebuilt from the ground up and the result is the absolute best version of the game released to date. Now, almost 20-years later the game is getting the HD treatment, though be warned, labeling it a simple re-release would be cutting it short. I poured hours into that game and have frequent memories of saving the Mudokons from the grinders, and yes.virtually farting away. That is until I got an original Xbox as a gift and Abe's journey came along with it. You see, there was a time during high school where I stopped playing video games altogether. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the original Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey. Some of the controls have been changed, and not for the better but don't let that stop you - those new to the series and those who have experienced the game before should check out this love letter to the Oddworld series. There's not much here that wasn't included in the game's original release but the new difficulty levels make for a nice change of pace, especially for those who played the original. Most of what you remember from Abe's original adventure the difficulty, the humor and the puzzles is here and the vast majority of it is recreated well. Gone are the single screen environments of the original in favor of large sweeping worlds that create the Oddworld you never got but always imagined.

Use GameSpeak to personalize the way you play the game.Though some textures didn't quite make the HD jump you'd expect, this is the best version of Oddworld we've seen to date. Some of the words (especially the rude sounds) are just plain fun to make. When someone whistles at you, whistles back the same way. Say 'Hello' to initiate conversation with a Mudokon - Learning to use 'Follow Me' and 'Wait' is pivotal to solving many puzzles. Learning what to say to who is part of the game's challenge, so I won't spoil it for you, but here are a couple of hints. While there's plenty of game play on the first level, many of the screens are tutorial areas spotlighting important game mechanics. Nothing bad will happen to you on the first couple of screens of the game, so take a couple minutes to play with the controls and learn all of the things Abe can do.
